STATE AND LOCAL MEETINGS AND EVENTS
|
Somerset County participates in State committees relating to the Bay and the environment that may also
offer opportunities to interested citizens. Among these are the Coastal and Watershed Resources Advisory
Committee or CWRAC, a part of Maryland's Coastal Zone Management Program and an advisory committee to the
Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the Lower Eastern Shore Tributary Strategy Team. Most
CWRAC meetings are held at 10 a.m. in Annapolis near Sandy Point State Park on the fourth Friday of
alternating months. Tributary Team meetings are held in downtown Salisbury from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the
last Thursday of each month.

You are welcome to attend these meetings at any time as a guest. Please call the Department at
(410) 651 -1424 for further information. CWRAC members are appointed by the County as the County
Government Representative, Alternate and Citizen Representative (presently unfilled).
Other organizations, including environmental groups, business and industry, may become formal members,
with a voting representative on approval of CWRAC. The Lower Eastern Shore Tributary Team invites local
participation, as well as interest in membership (appointment by the Governor).

County Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, which often deal with Chesapeake Bay Critical Area
subdivisions, rezonings and Growth Allocation, take place on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
in the County Commissioners Meeting Room. Board of Zoning Appeals meetings, which handle Variances from
the Hundred Foot Buffer and Special Exceptions that may be proposed for properties in the Critical Area,
are held at 7:30 p.m. on the third Friday of the month, also in the County Commissioners Meeting Room.
